On their cellphone name, Kate and her sister Laura got here up with the proper answer: a brand new vacation referred to as The Day of Issues.
Each February 1st, the sisters determined, “you’re allowed to replicate on and complain about all the issues in your life.” The vacation meal? “An assortment of junk meals.” Doesn’t it sound cathartic to place apart any silver linings for some good old style complaining? I’d love to take a seat in a small group in somebody’s front room with piles of bitter sweet, potato chips, and chocolate. Possibly somebody is designated be aware taker, and all the issues get ceremonially burned on the finish of the night time.
Excited about the sisters’ new vacation obtained me serious about what others we may add to the rotation.
Seinfeld launched Festivus (which has the same “airing of grievances”), the O.C. popularized Chrismukkah, the Christmas-Hanukkah combo, and Galentine’s Day got here straight from Parks and Rec.
The winter months are peppered with holidays, so I’m putting mine on the second Wednesday in Could. It’s referred to as No Plans Day. There are not any meals traditions or journey expectations; the day is huge open. The one rule is which you can’t make any superior plans. Possibly it’s sunny and heat, so you find yourself mountaineering; perhaps you’ve had a tricky few weeks at work, and nothing sounds higher than a giant mug of tea and the possibility to lastly begin a guide that’s been sitting in your nightstand. You can spend the day making ready an elaborate meal and invite pals for dinner, or clear out your closet whereas listening to your favourite songs from center college. It’s a temper ring of a vacation; do precisely what you need.
What else is lacking from the calendar? Possibly Honorary Aunt Day. Maybe some form of pageant for the primary ripe peach of the season. We may begin Double Header Day, the place you watch two related films in a row. Or a flower stroll within the spring, throughout which you and a buddy stroll across the neighborhood and odor all of the flowers you go?
